Additional Mudcrutch Information
|
"I just finished a record with Mudcrutch, my old band before the Heartbreakers. I am over the moon about it. I couldn't have hoped for it to be as good as it came out." In summer 2007, Tom Petty reunited Mudcrutch, consisting of himself, Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, original bandmember Tom Leadon, and Randall Marsh, who joined when Mudcrutch first went to Los Angeles in search of a record deal in the early 70s. Now, more than 30 years later, Mudcrutch finally has its debut album. With new Petty songs and a handful of covers, the self-titled disc is both classic rock and a rock classic.

This is another by Tom Petty, before he and his band became Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Excellent.
The extended instrumental in it is wonderful, magical, and it would be perfect only if it were longer. Great stuff. I disagree with the earlier review that says "Crystal River" is too long at nine minutes. It is the kind of musicianship you get when you hear Tom Petty's band live, but which they rarely do on the albums.
It has a great assortment of music with a distictly country blue grass feel to it. It is one of my favorites for "riding down the road" and a Crutch of Mud can be leaned on. I've been a Tom Petty fan for awhile and watched a good review of this CD on TV. I cannot listen to this CD without wanting to tap my fingers and hum along.
good early and mid-70's country rock. really good guitar players, good rhythm section, and good original material.
The songs range from classic folk renditions converted to swiftly paced rock beats, to gorgeous melodies that will remind you of "Last Dance With Maryjane" for instance. Mudcrutch is crisp, driving and sharp. The fact is I was expecting far less and was very happily disappointed. Tom Petty has conclusively disproved the theory that you can't go home again. In fact when he went home and reformed his high school band, the result was one of his finest efforts in many years. I was delightfully surprised by the fantastic consistency of this CD.
